Our history
Batemans Bay Funerals was established in 1984 by Sid Hewson.
Sid started as a funeral director in Goulburn in 1958. He moved to Batemans Bay after falling in love with the area while holidaying.
Sid's son Mark started working with his father at the age of 14, and took over the family business with his wife Marlene in 1987. Within 12 months, they combined with Parker's Coastal Funerals and Heads Funerals in Moruya, giving Batemans Bay Funerals offices in two towns - Batemans Bay and Moruya. Batemans Bay Funerals expanded further in 2000 with the creation of Eurobodalla Ladies Funerals, led by Marlene. While Mark and Marlene are now retired, Mark still works the occasional shift when needed.
Our people
Batemans Bay & Moruya District Funerals location manager Wayne Ringshaw has been in the funeral industry for 30 years and is also a long-time NSW Rural Fire Service volunteer.
The father-of-two and grandfather-of-four lives next door to the Batemans Bay funeral home and courageously defended the home during the devastating 2019/20 South Coast bushfires.
Our services
Care is at the heart of what we do and our tailored service approach ensures your loved one's life is celebrated and a beautiful, personal and loving tribute is delivered to make saying goodbye just a little easier.
The team at Batemans Bay & Moruya District Funerals takes great pride in arranging a personalised funeral, incorporating special elements that makes the service unique and memorable.
This may include a theme, custom coffin or use of our three vintage hearses that belong to Mark who is also a member of the local vintage car club.
We are often asked to hold services at a particular time of day or at a venue that reflects the person's life. Our team has held many services at locations across the region including by the water at Tuross spit and in 2019 we were entrusted with the high-profile funeral of Moruya rugby league icon Ack Weyman.
Show of support
We are proud to sponsor a number of local football teams and clubs, and also supply the team caption plaques for St Peters Anglican College at Broulee each year.
At Batemans Bay & Moruya Funerals we are here to help and assist you. You can call us at any time of the day or night when a death occurs for professional advice.
